Once again our motoring section has enabled a national catharsis, purging hundreds of Australians of the sins of their motoring pasts. Our classic car song comp has brought heartfelt confessions about secret pasts, secret trysts, secret relationships between men (and some women) and machines and secret meanings hidden in the pedestrian words of tunes like Maybellene, American Pie and I’m In Love With My Car.

In the process we have unearthed barn find beats like Thomas Dolby’s The Key To Her Ferrari, Richard Thompson’s My MBG-MT 1, Jack Nitzsche’s Last Race and Sonny Landreth’s USS Zydecoldsmobile and been shocked by the lack of enthusiasm for sure bets like Mr. Loaf’s Bat Out Of Hell, any version of Route 66 and Arlo Guthrie’s Motorcycle Song.

Luckily many readers remembered to suck up to your columnist. Of course those that didn’t were immediately put in the naughty corner and their votes completely ignored.
